ITINERARY

You will be met & assisted upon arrival at the International Airport and be transferred to Colombo. Check in at hotel and rest. Evening commence a city & shopping tour. Colombo is fast changing and developing to the modern city preserving the old charm to its splendor. Here visit the 100 years old clock tower, elegant historical building and many places like Pettah Bazaar, Buddhist Temple and Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall on your Colombo tour. Enjoy shopping in the colorful bazaars to take home lots of souvenirs, artifacts and Sri Lanka delights.

OVERNIGHT STAY IN COLOMBO

AAfter breakfast leave for Anuradhapura . Check in at hotel. Evening visit Anuradhapura, which were the first capital and undoubtedly the grandest city of the ancient Sri Lanka. It is the home of two World Heritage sites. Many places of historical and archaeological interest could be visited. Sri Maha Bodhi (Sacred Bo-Tree) was brought as a sapling of the tree under which prince Siddhartha attained to enlightenment and it is over 2,200 years old and is the oldest historically documented tree in the world. At Brazen Palace (2nd century B.C), the 1600 stone columns you see are all that is left of a magnificent multi-storied residence for monks. Ruwanweliseya (2nd century B.C) is the most famous of all the Dagobas. It originally depicted the perfect ‘bubble shape” that modern restoration has not been able to accurately reproduce. ‘Samadhi’ Buddha statue (4th century AD) is one of the most famous statues, depicting the Buddha in a state of ‘Samadhi’ or deep meditation Isurumuniya rock temple (3rd century B.C) is well known for its rock carvings of ‘The Lovers’. Kuttam Pokuna – twin ponds (6th century AD) was used by the Buddhist monks as a bathing pool. Thuparama Dagoba (3rd century B.C) is the oldest Dagoba in the island, which enshrines the right collarbone of the Buddha.

OVERNIGHT STAY AT ANURADHAPURA.

Check out after breakfast and proceed to Dambulla and check into hotel. Evening proceed on a village tour. It is a maximum three hour program designed to experience the real traditional Sri Lankan rural village style, consisting of Travel in a Bullock cart to a rural village through lush green paddy fields where you will be served tea and " juggery" along with lunch made to authentic Sri Lankan style. Traditional cooking methods, and a visit to a paddy field to see how the local farmers protect their crops from the wild animals, will be demonstrated. Finally proceed on a traditional canoe ride in a lake in Habarana.

OVERNIGHT STAY AT DAMBULA

After breakfast visit the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya with a magnificent view of the surroundings (optional - you may rent bikes for a walk in the countryside). It is also famous for its frescoes, such as the frescoes of the Demoiselles, dream creatures between goddesses and princesses. Thereafter proceed to Polonnaruwa for sightseeing. En route stopover in Habarana for a short elephant back ride. On completion proceed to Polonnaruwa. Polonnaruwa the second most ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdoms, Polonnaruwa was first declared the capital city by King Vijayabahu I, who defeated the Chola invaders in 1070 to reunite the country once more under a local leader. The Ancient City of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage Site.

Thereafter proceed to Minneriya on an exciting Jeep Safari. Minneriya National Park is a dry season feeding ground for the elephant population dwelling in forests of Matale, Polonnaruwa, and Trincomalee districts. Some reports account number of elephants to as high as 700. Tourists visit Minneriya largely because of elephants, especially in dry season.

OVERNIGHT STAY AT DAMBULLA

After breakfast leave foe Dambana, Village of Indigenous People of Sri Lanka. Dambana is a remote jungle village of indigenous people renowned for its eco-tourism prospects. The population of these indigenous 'Veddha' people now consists of only about 350 families, a number significantly reduced from a once thriving community. Visitors to this fascinating village have the opportunity to meet and chat with the people who live there, learn about their traditions, and gain a unique insight into their way of life. Thereafter return to Kandy.

OVERNIGHT STAY AT KANDY.

DAfter breakfast leave foe Dambana, Village of Indigenous People of Sri Lanka. Dambana is a remote jungle village of indigenous people renowned for its eco-tourism prospects. After breakfast leave for Nuwaraeliya via train and get off from Nanu Oya train station. Thereafter visit a tea factory and tea plantation where the best tea in the world is produced and have an opportunity to pluck tea leaves. Overnight Stay at Nuwara Eliya

OVERNIGHT STAY AT NUWARA ELIYA.

After breakfast leave for Kataragama Evening Visit Kataragama temple in the evening. This is the temple of Lord Karthikeya Subramaniam at Kataragama. Lord Karthikeya was requested to go to the battlefield by Lord Indra on the last day of war. This was done to protect Lord Rama from the wrath of Brahmasthra aimed by King Ravana which other wise would have weakened Lord Rama. The benefit was one of the most powerful weapon brahma asthra aimed at Lord Rama for the second time was rendered useless by the presence of Lord Karthikeya. 3 pooja or offerings take place daily. Make sure you have a tray full of fruits, incense and of course little money, to be offered (You will get half the fruits back, which you may partake)

After breakfast leave for Kataragama After breakfast spend day at leisure.

Proceed on an exciting jeep safari at Yala National Park. `Yala National Park is situated in the southeast region of the island in the dry zon e boarding the Indian Ocean. The total area of the park (which is of 5 blocks) is 97,881 ha. All the big game mammals of the country are found within the park. Elephant, Leopard, sloth bear, Spotted Dear, Wild Boar and sambhur. Apart from them small mammals such as Black naped hare, Grey, Ruddy & Striped necked mongoose, Grey Langur & porcupine are common small mammals. Park is also famous for its abundant bird life. Over140 species have recorded so far within the park. Changeable Hawk Eagle, Crested serpent Eagle, Malabar pied Hornbill, Jungle fowl, painted Stork, White Ibis and Black necked Stork are commonly found here.

After breakfast leave for Bentota. Check into hotel and rest.

OVERNIGHT STAY AT BENTOTA.

After breakfast proceed to Galle to do a city tour which was once the chief ports of Ceylon as Sri Lanka was named by the British, and which is a world heritage site now. It is still well known for hand-made lace. You can also visit the Galle Fort, spanning 90 acres which was originally built by the Portuguese and later extended by the Dutch in 1663. There is also a very interesting Dutch Museum. On completion return to Bentota.

After Leave in time to connect with early morning departure flight.
